The View From Below

I have the best job in the world! We just got in more Dogwoods; Pink and Cherokee Princess. I was out yesterday tagging them with our store tags and grading tape and daydreaming when I looked up.
This is what I saw:
It absolutely took my breath away!

This is the Cherokee Princess flower close-up, you can see the tiny yellow flowers blooming in the middle of the bracts.

One thing I had never really noticed before is the flower of the Pacific Sunset. I think they must be the showiest Maple flowers I have ever seen (next to Boxelder), and now that the leaves are out, they have the perfect background.

A Little Green

Of course, most of the focus right now is on flowers, and for good reason; we have been waiting for months for them. The flowers are beautiful, but I wanted to focus this post on the green that is coming out all over right now.

This is amazing, you have to really look to find these little leaf buds on the Ginkgo.



October Glory Maple Fruits (Helicopters)



This is a variety that we just started carrying. It's called June Snow Dogwood. You can see already that the flowers are more like a rough leaf Dogwood. I will add more photos of these as the flowers open up.

Musashino Zelkova
These leaves absolutely glow in the afternoon sun, and the reddish bracts are such a nice contrast.

This is Bonfire Patio Peach. The first picture was taken a week ago and the second and third were taken on Monday. I will take more when they leaf out, the leaves are long and narrow and look amazing with the flowers.


It is hard to pass up taking pictures of Pear in full bloom, so here they are:




The Jane Magnolias got a little too cold, but the newer buds look beautiful, I love the rich colors when they first start to open.





I think the last for today will be brand new Red Buckeye Leaves and some more Maple flowers, enjoy.

We have had a lot of product coming in, but I thought I would concentrate on flowers that are blooming right now in the nursery.



This is Royal Heritage Strain Helleborus finally blooming in the house.




The Show-Off Forsythia is in full bloom and stunning.



It seems like every time we get Henry Lauders they are in full bloom with pollen flying, it's not too fun to tag, but awesome to look at.





Hakuro Nishiki Willow has inconspicuous flowers, but I love their form. It is officially spring when these start to bloom no matter what the calendar says!




Not technically flowers, the cones of Fairview Yew are abundant and very attractive with the dark green leaves.





The blooms of Pink Dawn Viburnum are beautiful and VERY fragrant. They are in a house and you can smell them well before you walk in the door.



Cleveland Select Pear. They are just getting started and got a little nipped from that cold snap last week. Very pretty.
