At the Western Trade Show last weekend I got the chance to sit in on a talk about a fairly new program called
Earth Kind. They have done a lot of research on Roses and are preparing to start trials on perennials and shrubs. It is basically a university study that is running trials on specific plants in distinct categories (height, sun tolerance, etc) by growing the plants according to an established protocol. They will record data on survival and ability to thrive of each species tested.
They are doing the research regionally and will end up with a list specific to each area of the country. I was very impressed with the way they are setting up the project and their goals. It is research based and not a marketing tool to make money.
